Assist with TTM within the Road Reserve

This Skill Standard (SS40233) and Micro-Credential (MC5149) – Assist with TTM within the Road Reserve (1-day) workshop enables students to develop and demonstrate the skills required to assist with TTM within the road reserve in accordance with an approved Traffic Management Plan (TMP) and organisational requirements

Qualification:

This one-day workshop combines structured classroom learning with practical assessment activities. A facilitator/assessor will be present throughout the day to guide and support you during both the learning and assessment components.

On successful completion of all components “Achieved” for Skill Standard 40233, the Assessor will lodge your credits to be added to your NZQA record of learning (Rol).

Note: MC-5149 – Assist with TTM within the Road Reserve can be obtained for this level, refer to website enrolment option (instead of Skill Standard 40233 only)

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this workshop the participant will be able to:

  • Risk assessment is checked to include any new risks and alignment with the TMP
  • Installation, operation, maintenance, and uplift of TTM is completed using safe practices and following directions.
  • Information is communicated with TTM workers and the supervisor within the road reserve following TMP and organisational requirements
  • Vehicle movements and vulnerable road users within the road reserve are actively controlled following organisational requirements

These outcomes align directly with the learning outcomes and assessment criteria of Skills Standard 40233 and Micro-Credential 5149

Students will develop the ability to:

  • Common onsite hazards in the TTM industry and how they cause harm
  • Safe practices when assisting with temporary traffic management within the road reserve
  • Communication methods and skills to relay information to keep vulnerable road users safe
  • Safe practices around approaching traffic, vehicle movements, and vulnerable road users
  • Apply and maintain control measures in line with the Traffic Management Plan (TMP)
  • Complete required on-site documentation

This course combines structured theory learning with practical, work-based or simulated assessment task

Practical Component:

Conducted in a live workplace or simulated TTM environment inside the road reserve, provided that an approved TMP is in place and all activities are carried out under supervision, using a work-based assessment approach where students will:

  • Safely help set up, use, maintain, and remove a TTM layout
  • Follow the approved Traffic Management Plan (TMP)
  • Complete each task independently
  • Communicate clearly with your team
  • Use safe work practices to complete activities/tasks
  • Complete a series of practical tasks that reflect real worksite activities
  • Confirm your understanding and decision-making in completing tasks

Required to complete your enrolment to any programme:

Compulsory: National Student Number: Not Supplied – No Qualification Accreditation

You will be required to complete an NZQA enrolment form as the first step of your enrolment to any programme, and would require the following information on hand:

    • Head and Shoulder Photo (blank background) used for any printed quals cards
    • Proof of Identification (Passport, Birth Certificate) – Driver License not a form of ID
    • National Student Number (NSN#) – Visit The New Zealand Qualifications Authority – NZQA OR
    • Casual dress code (NO WORK BOOTS)
    • Full PPE Gear, including Rain wear, if completing any practical requirements (workplace or simulated)
    • Bring reading spectacles if required (Tablet / Chromebook use).
    • Water Bottle to hydrate whilst conducting practical

Who should attend:

This course is ideal for:

  • Workers assisting with Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) within the road reserve using static closures
  • TTM crew supporting qualified TTM personnel whilst on site
  • Civil, infrastructure, utilities, and maintenance workers working near the roadside
  • Contractors and crews undertaking roadside activities requiring basic TTM support
  • Organisations wanting staff trained to assist with safe setup, maintenance, and removal of static closures in line with an approved TMP and PCBU obligations

Entry Requirements:

There are no formal NZQA prerequisites, however students should:

  • Be able to read, write, and understand basic English instructions
  • Be familiar with general workplace safety rules and expectations
  • Be willing and able to follow safety directions in a live or simulated environment

  • Theory Workshop Fee and access to LMS system
  • Skill Standard 40233 cost @ $6.50 x 5 Credits = $32.50 + GST included
  • $30.00 + GST per Unit Standard Booklet Pack (Hardcopy or LMS)
  • Sign off by NZQA approved Assessor for Skill Standard 40231
  • Lunch will be provided for face-to-face one-day (or more) workshops extending beyond lunch break only, not short workshops (1/2 day or less)

  • A course fee will become payable upon securing the booking online.

  • Overdue accounts will be referred to Debt Collection services, and all associated fees will be liable by student/company making the booking.
